Information
Champagne is such a celebratory and evocative wine, however it wasn’t always that way. Champagne’s development has been due to many wonderful individual achievements. Among them all, a special place is deservedly kept for Madame Clicquot. She was given the accolade of ‘la grande dame de la Champagne’ due to due her leadership of Veuve Clicquot at the young age of 27 and developing the process of remuage that makes Champagne so delightfully clear.
The Champagne region is at the northern latitude at which vines successfully bear fruit. The region has 32,250 hectares in production, spread over five main areas: Grande Montagne de Reims, Vallee de la Marne, Cote des Blancs, Sezannais and Cote des Bar. The Veuve Clicquot vineyards (the second largest vineyard in Champagne) now cover over 382 hectares, creating some of the worlds finest Champagne.
